In addition, many other sites of historic interest likely exist but have not been formally recognized. National Historic Register Districts and Buildings—Authorized under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Register includes districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects that are significant in American history, architecture, archeology, engineering, and culture.
